* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) * Baltimore, Maryland — On February 1, 2024, at approximately 5:25 p.m., Officer Braxton Shelton with the Prince George’s County Police Department responded to an apartment in the 5100 block of Suitland Road in Suitland after receiving a 911 call from a resident for a report of a breaking and entering in-progress at their home. Upon arriving on scene, one officer entered the residence where he encountered 31-year-old Melvin Jay of Suitland and began giving him commands. During the encounter, the officer discharged his service weapon, striking Jay. Jay was pronounced dead on scene. No officers were injured. After the shot, Officer Shelton addresses another man in the apartment, asking him if he lived there and what he was doing there. The man said it was his cousin’s house and Jay was his brother. Investigators say two guns were recovered near Jay, but it’s unclear whether Jay was holding one or if the guns were his. In the 911 call officers responded to, the caller said a neighbor told him someone was breaking into his apartment. The caller did not say Jay might be inside. The caller, Jay and the person who allegedly broke into the apartment are related, police said. The 911 caller claimed a neighbor told him about the break-in, and he didn't know who the intruder was. Police said the caller knew it was his own relative coming to collect on a debt. “The investigation revealed that a family member informed the 911 caller he was coming over to take the caller’s property,” said Prince George’s County Police Chief Malik Aziz In a recorded statement. “This fact was not shared during the 911 call for help.” Chief Aziz blamed the apartment leaseholder for creating a dangerous situation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Special thanks to Shout-Out Supporters on Patreon: - 'DIY Solar Power with Will Prowse' - Anthony Martinez - 'wuzy' - Shane AL Walker - matthew emanuel - 'Jun' - 'Xenik' - 'Rom' - 'wvot' - 'Cartoonjunkies' - john ferroato - 'Fishy Tuna' - 'GotsNoGroove Cheryl' - Lynn Boyer - Exus Altimus - 'Dawesenm' - William Bowman - Paul Rohrbaugh - Sandra McGreevy - 'Krazy KZ' - Koby Bland - Christopher Payne - Zach Williams - Michael R Sheffield - Rich Biggs - 'JTrip' - Brant Eaton - James Pringle - 'AccuShoot.com' - Meighan Garrick - 'Sopaul' - Lisa Overly - Connor Davies - 'Necko' - Gerardo Flores - Anthony Eufemio - 'Donkbot' - Gage Kissinger - 'coco Coco' ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/PoliceActivity Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Police_Activity 🛍️ Check out our Amazon store: https://www.amazon.com/shop/PoliceActivity 🛍️ Disclosure: Please note that we will receive a small commission from purchases made through our Amazon store.
