On March 31, 2023, officers responded to a report of a person down at a residence on Grove Circle. Upon arrival, they found Mr. Kindred, who had accidentally shot himself in the neck with a handgun. He was intoxicated and initially claimed it was an accident, but later stated that his girlfriend, Ms. Miller, had shot him. Ms. Miller, who appeared calm, told officers that Mr. Kindred had been drinking heavily and became aggressive during an argument. She claimed he went into the bedroom, where she later heard a gunshot and found him wounded. However, as the investigation progressed, Ms. Miller admitted to firing the shot in self-defense after Mr. Kindred, in his intoxicated state, became violent and threatened her. She was arrested for aggravated assault. The firearm used was discovered to be stolen, and all evidence, including the bodycam footage and statements, was processed. Ms. Miller was booked into jail, and Mr. Kindred was transported to the hospital for treatment.
