On August 19, 2026, in Milton, Georgia, chief investigator Brendan Keefe was filming a Flock Safety license plate reader being installed on a public street. He was parked at a distance on a public road, wearing a safety vest and a press hat, with a press placard on his dash. The Flock installer packed up his equipment, left the scene, and called 911, telling the dispatcher that he worked with Flock Safety and that he was being followed. Three Milton police units responded and pulled Keefe over. The stop lasted roughly seventeen minutes. Keefe identified himself as a member of the press documenting Flock camera installations, no crime was found, no citation was issued, and he was released. This bodycam footage and the 911 audio were later obtained through a public records request. Flock Safety says it does not object to the public or press photographing its cameras or personnel in public spaces, but that employees and contractors may contact law enforcement if they believe they are being followed or face a safety concern. The wider context matters here. Flock Safety operates a nationwide network of automatic license plate reader cameras that photograph vehicles and store searchable location data. Public pushback has grown sharply. Dozens of jurisdictions have canceled Flock contracts, dozens more have rejected proposals before installation, and on August 31, 2026, the Florida Department of Transportation ordered license plate readers removed from state roads and state rights of way, giving agencies thirty days to take them down. That order followed Governor Ron DeSantis calling license plate reader use in the state out of control. Our position on this channel has not changed. We support real police work and the officers who do it the right way. We do not support a private company building a searchable record of where ordinary Americans drive every day, with limited oversight and expanding access. This video is presented as commentary and analysis of public records footage and publicly reported facts. What do you think about Flock cameras, and would you want them removed from your city?
