On July 6, 2023, officers were patrolling inside a grocery store when employees alerted them to a suspected retail theft in progress. Earlier, a separate individual had already been trespassed from the store for prior theft activity. Shortly after, store staff reported another woman at the self-checkout who appeared to be scanning some items while concealing others inside her bag. Officers observed the woman leave the self-checkout area and walk past all points of payment without paying for multiple items. When stopped for a receipt check, it was determined that 17 items totaling $41.23 had not been paid for. During the investigation, the woman provided a false name and date of birth, which initially returned no record through dispatch. While officers attempted to verify her identity, she refused to cooperate, screamed, and fled on foot through the parking lot before being taken into custody. Further investigation revealed her true identity and confirmed she had multiple active warrants, including warrants out of state. She was arrested and charged with Retail Theft, Obstructing Identification, Resisting a Peace Officer, and Warrant Service related offenses.
