On November 8, 2024, two female victims contacted the Key West Florida Police Department after receiving cell phone notifications alerting them that an unrecognized Apple Air Tag was detected near them and tracking their locations. One of the victims, utilized the “play sound” feature within the notification and began hearing a beeping like noise that grew louder as she approached the rear passenger side of her vehicle. The victim crawled under her vehicle, where she found a magnetic device, wrapped in black duct tape, containing an AirTag, on the underside of her wheel well. The Key West Police Department Criminal Investigation’s Unit worked with local Agents from the Department of Homeland Security to identify the subscriber information associated with each device. These efforts lead to the identification of 52-year-old Mariusz Swiecicki of Key West. On January 3, 2025, Detectives arrived at Swiecicki's home where they found him with his family and immediately took him into custody and began questioning. During their interview with Swiecicki, Detectives allowed him to review the overwhelming amount of evidence collected against him during their extensive investigation. Swiecicki confessed to placing the AirTags on each of the victims vehicles and was subsequently placed under arrest. Swiecicki has been charged with two counts of installation or use of tracking devices, a third degree felony.
