US Minneapolis police have released bodycam footage of a fatal shooting by officers, the first death at the hands of police in the US city since that of George Floyd, a black man, in May. The victim, Dolal Idd, 23, was a suspect in a felony and was stopped by police on Wednesday. Minneapolis police chief Medaria Arradondo said a gun was found at the scene. “When I viewed the video that everyone else is viewing – and certainly the real-time slow-down version – it appears the individual inside the vehicle fired his weapon at the officers first,” he said. The video shows officers ordering the driver of a white car to stop as police vehicles attempt to block in the car. The driver's-side window shatters as multiple gunshots are heard. In a 5 p.m. press conference, Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo said the officers were responding to a probable cause weapons investigation. He said from his viewing of the now-public video and other preliminary information, the driver shot at police first. "My officers were reacting to that deadly threat," Arradondo said. "The investigation will uncover more details." Multiple outlets have reported that the victim is 23-year-old Dolal Idd of Eden Prairie. Idd's father, Bayle Gelle, said to Minneapolis press early Thursday that his son was the man involved in the incident. While authorities have not officially identified the man who was shot, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said Thursday that emotions are raw for people in the city, especially "our Somali community, who has lost a young man." https://youtu.be/l6yoErF37ac Police Activity Daily is Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for fair use.
