On January 26, 2024, Deputy Hernandez was dispatched to a location known as Kiki's Sandbar at approximately 10:30 PM in response to a report of an intoxicated male attempting to drive away in his vehicle. The reporting party provided a description of the vehicle as a dark-colored GMC truck with an Ontario license plate. Upon arrival, Deputy Hernandez located the truck and engaged in conversation with a the man. William was found seated in the driver's seat of the vehicle, with the key fob on the center console indicating a push-to-start vehicle. During the interaction, Deputy Hernandez noticed a strong odor of alcohol emanating from William's breath, which intensified as he spoke. William exhibited droopy eyelids, slow and slurred speech, and watery bloodshot eyes. Despite repeated requests for his driver's license, William initially failed to produce it, instead presenting a bundle of cash where he claimed it was located. After further questioning, William provided his name but was evasive about his date of birth, offering inconsistent responses. Subsequently, Deputy Hernandez placed William under lawful arrest and transported him to the Monroe County Jail. An inventory search of the vehicle led to the discovery of William's driver's license, as well as three Light Beer cans in the back seat, one of which was unopened while the others were empty and still cold. Additionally, a clear plastic cup containing a red liquid emitting an alcoholic odor was found in the vehicle. During the arrest process, William defecated in his pants while exiting the vehicle, stating that he had "sharted." Deputy Ketcham, a certified breath test operator, conducted a twenty-minute observation period on William, resulting in a breath sample reading. William was issued a Florida Uniform DUI Citation and a court date.
