Deputies incident report: On the cited date and time while patrolling the area of Jonesboro Rd and I75N, I noticed a vehicle with a completely tinted front windshield. I subsequently attempted to stop the vehicle on I75N. However, the vehicle commenced reckless driving, overtaking others on the shoulder, before I activated my emergency lights and sirens. I attempted to stop the vehicle, but it evaded and carried on with reckless driving. I informed dispatch of a vehicle pursuit initiation. The chase continued on I75 North passing Forest Pkwy at a speed of 153Mph, confirmed by my in-car radar speed detection device. The vehicle switched erratically from lanes 3 to lane 1 and back to lane 3, overtaking others on the emergency shoulder. I maintained a safe distance between my patrol vehicle and the fleeing one, ensuring no added danger to the public and providing adequate time to respond to the danger posed by the escaping vehicle. Later, it encroached the HOV lane on I75N and Charles W Grant Pkwy, which was an infraction as the vehicle had only one occupant. The vehicle proceeded into the city of Atlanta, continuing to drive recklessly by traversing the highway shoulder, making erratic lane changing, and running red lights. Upon reaching Memorial Drive and Pryor Street, the vehicle inhabited the wrong side of the road and disregarded yielding to other vehicles and pedestrians. Eventually, the vehicle lost control on Memorial Drive and Park Ave, crashed, and the suspect in question immediately exited the vehicle and attempted escape on foot. Clayton County Sheriff's Office K9 TIR and Deputy Isaac (Cobra unit) managed to capture the suspect who was bitten by K9 TIR during the arrest. Subsequently, he was taken into custody. Upon arriving at the scene, Grady EMS decided that the suspect required hospital treatment for the dog bite. The Atlanta Police department took over the crash report. A black Glock 19 9MM SN-redacted was found lodged between the driver's seat. The firearm was reported stolen from Athens County Police Department as of redacted. The driver, who later was identified as J. Shaw, was aware or should have had knowledge of the firearm being stolen as he inquired whether it was stolen before I could confirm it on GCIC/NCIC. The driver, was also identified also as a convicted felon from his conviction dated 04/21/2020 for felony theft by receiving in Clayton County Courts. He was admitted to Grady Hospital for medical attention. The tint of the driver's front door window was measured at 12% on my meter and the front windshield was completely tinted. The suspect was transported to the hospital, where he admitted to deputies that he had been fleeing from several metro Atlanta agencies, but all had gave up chasing him after a minute or two or didn’t chase him at all when he ran. He expressed surprise that the "Clayco" Sheriff deputies kept chasing him saying “I ain't know y’all chased like that especially into the city (Atlanta)”. After being released from the hospital, he was booked directly into the Clayton County Jail on charges of felony fleeing, theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, reckless driving, and 11 other charges.
