San Jose police have released helicopter and bodycam footage showing the violent end to a multi-day crime spree that ended in a deadly shootout. According to police, 30-year-old Muhammed Hussein carried out several armed robberies and carjackings across Northern California before the situation escalated into a major police pursuit. Authorities say the crime spree began on January 17 when Hussein stole a red Corvette from a dealership in Sacramento. Over the following days, he allegedly committed multiple robberies across the region. The situation intensified when license plate readers located the stolen Corvette in San Jose. Police say Hussein later stole a bright green Corvette at gunpoint from another dealership, triggering a police pursuit. A police helicopter tracked the suspect nearly 45 miles south to Hollister, where he exchanged gunfire with San Benito County deputies and Hollister Police. Investigators say Hussein then stole another vehicle and drove back toward San Jose while firing shots at California Highway Patrol officers along the way. The pursuit ended in downtown San Jose, where helicopter footage shows the suspect shooting a San Jose police sergeant in the head. Despite being critically wounded, the sergeant survived and is expected to recover. Police then opened fire on the suspect, who was fatally shot and run over during the confrontation. San Jose Police Chief Paul Joseph described the incident as a life-or-death battle that unfolded in broad daylight. "It's the kind of footage people might expect from an action movie, but this was not a movie," Joseph said.
