Around 5:34 PM, he saw a grey 2017 Mercedes-Benz almost hit a pedestrian. This happened at Ocean Avenue and Peninsula Avenue. The sergeant was stopped, letting a family cross. The Mercedes, heading the other way, sped through the crosswalk. It did not stop. The pedestrian clutched their child to avoid the car. After the family crossed, Sergeant Huegel turned his car around. He began to follow the Mercedes. The chase ended in the Sea Bright Supermarket parking lot. He approached the driver, later identified as Gwendolyn Wisely. He asked for her driver's license. Gwendolyn had no ID. She did show him her car's insurance on her phone. While talking to her, he smelled alcohol. He also saw other signs she might be drunk. Gwendolyn admitted to drinking earlier. She claimed she was not drunk, however. Sergeant Huegel asked Gwendolyn to say the alphabet. She could not say it in order. She also struggled to count to 30 clearly. Around then, she mentioned her son is a police officer. Because she showed signs of being drunk, Gwendolyn was asked to do more tests. Sergeant Huegel started with a balance test. Gwendolyn could not lift her foot correctly. Her arms were not at her sides. She seemed to lack balance. The last test involved walking and turning. Gwendolyn did not step heel-to-toe. She also turned the wrong way. Based on her poor test results, the smell of alcohol, and her admission to drinking, Gwendolyn was arrested. She was charged with driving under the influence. Her car was taken for 12 hours due to John's Law. Sergeant Huegel took her to the Sea Bright Police Station. There, he read her a statement. She agreed to take a breath test. The Alcotest showed her blood alcohol content was 0.295%. This is over three times the legal limit of 0.08%. She again mentioned her son was a police officer. He was on duty in Fair Haven, New Jersey. Gwendolyn was later released to her son, Timothy Wisely. He signed paperwork for her. She must appear in court later. Sergeant Huegel gave her tickets for: Operating under the influence. Reckless driving. Failing to stop for a pedestrian. Gwendolyn had been arrested before. She was charged with DWI in Rumson on February 23, 2021. Later, on April 9, 2023, she was ticketed for an unlicensed dog in Rumson. 2:15 I’m sorry I didn’t expect this to happen 9:38 she comes off like little miss smarty pants. Maybe. 36:02 I could swear I heard him sarcastically saying "not a drunk?" 37:53 make sense, New Jersey has ridiculous laws so definitely believable 40:40 cop: No worries, your mug shot won't be released to the public....
