On May 8, 2025, Rio Rancho Police Officers received a call regarding a battery. Officers were also advised that the suspect was a former police lieutenant who had fled the scene and was heavily intoxicated. Officer Benavidez located the subject and initiated a traffic stop. Officer Roskos arrived a short time later to conduct a DWI investigation. The subject was placed under arrest and was transported to the Rio Rancho Police Station. He submitted two breath samples and both registered 0.17% BAC. He was charged with Aggravated Driving While Under the Influence of Liquor. On July 30, 2025, he pleaded guilty to regular (non-aggravated) DWI and was sentenced to community service and DWI school. He was also ordered to install an Ignition Interlock Device. If he completes all of the requirements of his sentence, he is eligible to have the case eventually dismissed.
