Near Fifth Street and Bay Avenue. He tailed the car. Then flipped on his emergency lights for a stop. The driver pulled over at 13th Street and Long Beach Boulevard. McCaffrey approached the driver. Her name: 22-year-old Alyssa King. Perfume scent hit him first. But signs of impairment stood out. She said she worked at Black Whale. Had hit Hudson House Bar—that's "The Hud"—earlier. Admitted a few drinks before driving. He saw a wristband from Bird and Betty’s. She later owned up to stopping there first. Sergeant Daly showed up to help. They asked Alyssa for field sobriety tests. First: recite alphabet from D to M. She flubbed it. Next: Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. McCaffrey noted jerky eyes. No smooth tracking.
