On January 27, 2024, a citizen called the Waukegan Police Department to report that a known stolen vehicle was parked in a Starbucks parking lot. Officers initially thought the vehicle was unoccupied. However, as they got closer, they observed a 27-year-old female asleep behind the wheel and a 25-year-old male passenger. Officers made contact with the woman, who refused to exit vehicle. Instead of complying with the officer's commands, she park the car in drive and crashed into two police cars. She then reversed, striking one of the officers with an open car door. She repeatedly went forward and in reverse until the car became disabled. She exited the vehicle and suffered once of the greatest takedowns in body camera history. She was handcuffed and treated by EMS for a potential overdose. Meanwhile, the male passenger attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended a few feet away.
