Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 1:17 a.m. on April 11, 2024, Officer James Holub was patrolling near Main Street and U.S. Route 14 in Crystal Lake. He saw a 2023 Ford F-150 drifting between lanes. The driver appeared to be texting as she headed south on Main Street toward Route 14. Holub followed the truck and soon pulled it over near James R. Rakow Road and Pyott Road. The driver was Lauren Messer. While speaking with her, Holub smelled alcohol and noticed signs of possible impairment. Messer could not provide valid proof of insurance. Another officer arrived to assist, and they asked her to get out of the truck for sobriety tests. Messer initially refused. After officers warned her she would be arrested, she agreed, and they removed her handcuffs for the tests. When they were done, she refused a breath test. Officers arrested her for DUI. Holub drove her to the Crystal Lake police station for booking. There, officers read her the motorist warning, but she again refused to provide a breath sample. Holub obtained a warrant for a blood test and took her to Mercy Health Hospital. Staff drew her blood and completed the paperwork. Messer was then released until her court date. She was first cited for DUI (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2)), using a phone while driving (625 ILCS 5/12-610.2), failing to stay in her lane (625 ILCS 5/11-709), and driving without insurance (625 ILCS 5/3-707(a)). Blood test results showed a level above 0.08, so officers added a DUI charge for a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(1)).
