A man is towing a boat home down US-1. He's driving slowly, because he's towing a boat, and his hazards are on. Ninety seconds after a deputy reaches his window he is cuffed against the side of his own truck with a taser pointed at his back — and that truck is rolling down the highway with his wife still inside it. He has a traumatic brain injury. He spends the night in jail on two felony charges. Here's what makes this one different: the stop was lawful, and the order to step out was lawful. Almost everything this deputy said about the law was correct. Both things he escalated — driving too slowly under Fla. Stat. 316.183(5), and not handing over a licence under 322.15 — are noncriminal traffic infractions by their own text. They are tickets. Twice on this tape the deputy says something out loud that appears to be the whole case. His wife asks him to see her husband's flinch the way you'd see autism — instinct, not defiance. He answers: "If his mental capacity is so diminished that he doesn't know not to put his hands on a police officer, he should not have a driver's licence." And at the end of the stop: "I wouldn't have even given him a ticket." I walk through the tape, both statutes, and the three things you do instead. 📕 THE KNOW YOUR RIGHTS PLAYBOOK — the exact words to say at a traffic stop, the statutes behind them, and the paper trail that turns a bad stop into a case. 67 pages, plain English, for people who don't have a lawyer on speed dial. 👉 rightsplaybook.gumroad.com ⏱ CHAPTERS 0:00 "Get out of the car.
