-San Antonio, TX. -September 04, 2023. San Antonio police officers shot and killed a 27-year-old man accused of several robberies in the area while pursuing the suspect, according to Police Chief William McManus. The shooting happened on the Southwest Side near Southcross and Prestwick on Monday afternoon. McManus said the Robbery Unit learned that the man was a suspect in several robberies. Officers began to pursue the man following two robberies on Monday. During the pursuit, McManus says the man may have aimed at police with a weapon, prompting officers to fire back, killing him. “The officers’ actions are predicated by the actions of the suspect,” McManus said, noting further investigation is needed. “In this case, the suspect, we understand, he had a weapon,” he continued. McManus said the suspect has four aggravated robbery warrants and a lengthy criminal history, on top of the robberies committed Sunday night and twice on Monday. “He should have been in jail,” the chief said. This is one of several incidents in which police have shot suspects in the past few weeks. Police have not released information about the officers who shot at the suspect at this time.
