On May 20, 2025, Largo Police responded to Northeast Park in Clearwater, Florida, after reports that a woman had assaulted a man over 65. According to the victim and a witness, 33-year-old Laura Garrett became upset over the man’s MAGA hat, confronted him about his support for Donald Trump, poured liquid on him, and allegedly struck him with a soda can before leaving the area. Officers located Garrett nearby, but police said she refused to identify herself or cooperate with commands. After being detained, she dropped to the ground, refused to walk, began singing “God Bless the USA,” wrapped her legs around an officer, and later kicked as additional officers attempted to move her.
