It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Around 2:15 a.m. on September 21, 2024, Officer Jon Finze from the Wauconda Police Department spotted a 2017 Dodge Journey speeding along Route 176 near Osage Street. The car hit 50 mph in a 30 mph zone. He swung his patrol car around. Then he clocked it at 46 mph, still way over the limit. The driver took a wide turn onto South Main Street. Finze flipped on his lights for a stop. The vehicle pulled into the police department's lot. Finze approached the driver, Jennifer Lee. While talking, he noticed signs she might be impaired. She said she'd just left Alta Rehab in Wauconda. A quick records check later showed three past DUI arrests. Officer Lily Meyer-Volinek showed up. Finze searched the car. Inside, he found syringes and other banned items. Her wild driving, clear signs of impairment, and those illegal finds led Finze to arrest Jennifer for DUI. He cuffed her and walked her into the station for booking. They left her car there. It got inventoried but not towed, just parked in the lot. At the station, Officer Meyer-Volinek read her the Warning to Motorist form. Jennifer refused a breath test. Officer Yaeger from Vernon Hills came by for a drug recognition exam. After that, Officer Valkenaar from Libertyville arrived. He's a trained phlebotomist. He drew her blood. Once processed, Officers Wich and Arteaga took her to Lake County Courthouse for her first court date.
