Around 6:17 PM on May 21, 2023, a Highlands Police Department patrol officer observed a 2009 Dodge Caliber driving erratically on SR 36 northbound. The vehicle was reportedly swerving and following too closely, prompting a traffic stop near Orchard Street and SR 36. The driver stated she had been at Donovan’s Reef (Sea Bright) and admitted to drinking earlier. Officers conducted field sobriety tests (FSTs). During the stop, the passenger repeatedly interjected and refused instructions, escalating the interaction until she was permitted to leave with her boyfriend. Based on driving behavior, statements, and FST performance, the driver was arrested for DUI and transported for further processing. The report indicates a refusal to submit breath samples was logged during the procedure.
