On April 8, 2026, at approximately 12:46 p.m., Bradley Police Department officers responded to a well-being check at a home on Jonette Avenue in Bradley, Illinois, after reports of a man making suicidal statements. Officers encountered 34-year-old Jose Orozco of Bradley, who was allegedly armed with a box cutter. According to Illinois State Police, officers attempted to communicate with Orozco when he began advancing toward them. Orozco allegedly disobeyed repeated commands to stop. Officers discharged their weapons, striking him. Orozco appeared to try to get up before he was shot again. Officers rendered medical aid at the scene until EMS arrived. Orozco was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Bradley Police Department requested that Illinois State Police conduct an independent investigation. The two officers involved were placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of that investigation. The case will be turned over to the Kankakee County State's Attorney's Office for review.
