He turned around to follow the car. The driver kept drifting across the road. Golembieski turned on his lights to stop the vehicle. The driver pulled over at Atlantic Avenue and Church Street in Long Branch. The driver was Stephanie Tjarks. Golembieski smelled alcohol and saw signs that Stephanie was impaired. She said she came from Val's Tavern in Sea Bright, but that bar is actually in Rumson. She told the officer she had two glasses of wine. Golembieski asked her to get out of the car for sobriety tests. First, he did the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Her eyes did not track smoothly and jerked at a 45 degree angle. Next was the Lack of Convergence test. Then came the Walk and Turn test. Stephanie failed to touch heel-to-toe and could not count out loud. She took the wrong number of steps and turned the wrong way. During the One Leg Stand, she did not lift her foot right and put it down too early. Finally, she tried the Modified Romberg Balance test. She thought 30 seconds had passed after only 17. Because of her driving and poor test results, Golembieski arrested her for DWI. He impounded her car for 12 hours under John's Law. He then took Stephanie to the Monmouth Beach Police Department. At the station, she was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to a breath test. The Alcotest showed a BAC of 0.127%, which is over the 0.08% limit. A sober adult signed a liability warning and took her home. Golembieski gave Stephanie these tickets: -Operating under the influence (39:4-50) -Reckless driving (39:4-96) -Careless driving (39:4-97) -Unsafe lane change (39:4-88B) As of February 17, 2026, her case is still in the Monmouth Beach Municipal Court.
