Virginia's Fairfax — At 2:36 p.m. on April 23, 2025, a Fairfax County Police Department officer pulled over a 1999 Toyota Corolla in the 4000 block of Majestic Lane after observing an expired safety sticker on the car's front window. Jamal Wali, a 36-year-old Fairfax resident, was operating the vehicle. Wali argued and disobeyed orders. After calling backup, Wali unholstered a gun and fired a single shot through the driver's side window. He tried to fire a second shot, but there was a malfunction and it failed to discharge. One officer's bicep was struck by the bullet that Wali fired, but a malfunction prevented it from discharging. After passing through one officer's bicep and another's forearm, Wali's bullet crossed the street and broke the rear windshield of a parked car. After receiving care at a nearby hospital, both officers were allowed to go. Wali was hit four times by a third officer who was standing on the passenger side of the car when he fired his weapon. After being taken to a nearby hospital, Wali was declared dead.
