Thursday July 6th, 2023 Albuquerque police responded to a 911 call at a Whataburger restaurant for a man that had fallen asleep while in their drive thru. The manager had tried to wake the man up but was unable to and noticed several alcohol bottles inside the vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and woke the man up before having him step out of the vehicle. As the driver got out and stepped to the rear of his vehicle, he lost his balance and fell over. The officers continued talking to the man and noted he appeared to be heavily intoxicated based off his balance, slurred speech, open alcohol bottles and the odor of alcohol coming from the man. Officers ultimately arrested the driver for DWI after reviewing the restaurants security camera footage and talking with the manager. Officers later searched the vehicle and located more than 8 bottles of alcohol with over half of them being empty. The driver in this case is a repeat offender and has had multiple previous DWI related incidents.
