A grey 2012 BMW had backed into a police car in the lot at 1901 E 7th Avenue. No real damage showed on either vehicle. So, they skipped the crash report. Officer Baar chatted with the other cops there. Then he met the driver, Elsie. Talking to her, he spotted signs of impairment. He smelled alcohol too. She owned up to drinking beer that night. Suspicious, he had her step out. She did field sobriety tests. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Next, Walk and Turn. Last, One Leg Stand. The crash, her clues of impairment, alcohol smell, her admission, and bad test results led to arrest. She faced DUI charges. As he put her in the patrol car, Elsie kicked him. Officer Baar drove her to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. There, she refused a breath test. Charges hit: DUI under 316.193(1) and resisting without violence, 843.02.
