Police Chase Armed Murder Suspect And Ends Up Crossing The Wrong People Both Videos Are attached, if you have watched the first one, you can skip to 15:00 00:00-15:00 Pursuit 15:00-21:38 Arrest 21:38-33:48 Hospital 21:38-51:50 County Jail Per Report: On Thursday, September 27, 2021, I, New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Officer Scott Apodaca was on duty, in full uniform, displaying my badge acting in an official New Mexico State Police capacity. At approximately 5:42 pm, NMSP Captain David O'Leary advised me to attempt to locate a vehicle possibly headed northbound on US 285 between Roswell and Vaughn, NM. The vehicle was a white 2013 Ford pickup truck, bearing Texas registration NGX7513. A picture of the Ford was provided to me via email and I noticed it had a large chrome push bumper. I was advised the driver of the Ford was Mr. Kionne Lewis, of Midland, TX, who was wanted by the Texas Rangers in reference to a murder. Mr. Lewis also had additional outstanding warrants for his arrest. Captain O'Leary advised me to BOLO (Be On The Lookout) in the Vaughn area for the Ford pickup truck.Once I arrived in Vaughn, I parked near the intersection of US Highway 60 and US Highway 54. I instructed Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) Deputy Pat Velasquez to park at the intersection of US 285 and US 54 to keep an eye out. At approximately 6:39 pm, I was advised by NMSP Dispatch Las Vegas of an updated phone ping with a 15 mile radius on Mr. Lewis which showed him west of Vaughn near Encino, NM. I proceeded to US60/285 northbound attempting to locate the vehicle. As I was headed northbound on US 60/285 through Vaughn, I noticed a white Ford pickup with a large push bumper parked at a gas pump in the Allsup's convenience store parkinglot. I turned around and pulled into the parking lot, directly behind the white Ford. I verified the Ford was bearing a Texas registration plate . I opened my driver's side door and grabbed my PA mic when Mr. Lewis began to pull forward. I activated my lights and sirens, and the white Ford pickup pulled out of the Allsups parking lot, and onto US 60/285, southbound. The vehicle did not stop when I activated my emergency equipment and I continued driving southbound on US 60/285 in the right lane. I notified dispatch to clear the air and I pursued the Ford pickup south in the right lane of US60/285. Traffic was light and no pedestrians were observed. Mr. Lewis slowed and made a right turn onto 5th Street. Mr. Lewis made another quick right turn onto main street and again approached the intersection of US 60/285. Mr. Lewis came to a stop before the stop sign, I removed my seatbelt and came to a stop approximately 40 feet behind him. Before I could get out of my patrol vehicle, Mr. Lewis put the Ford in reverse and accelerated backwards striking the front of my vehicle. Mr. Lewis then proceeded forward and turned south on US 60/285. My patrol vehicle was disabled from the impact. I notified dispatch the suspect rammed my patrol unit, and it had been disabled. I also advised them the Ford pickup fled southbound on US60/285. Guadalupe County Deputy Velasquez was in the area and followed the Ford pickup for a short time before stating he lost visual. I notified NMSP Officer Jonathan Gonzalez and requested he pick me up in his patrol unit. I also contacted Captain O'Leary and updated him on the situation. Once Officer Gonzales arrived I gathered my service weapons and placed them in his vehicle. Officer Gonzalez and I proceeded to BOLO the surrounding highways for Mr. Lewis. At approximately 7:30 pm dispatch advised over the radio NMSP officers had located Mr. Lewis on US 285 at Milepost 143. Dispatch advised Officers were engaged in a pursuit and Officer Gonzalez and I headed towards the area. Dispatch soon after advised Mr. Lewis had driven off the roadway and bailed out of the vehicle on foot into a field. The NMSP Tactical Team was activated and a search for Mr. Lewis ensued. Once Officer Gonzalez and I arrived in the area we were instructed to block all southbound traffic on US 285 while the search continued. At approximately 12:30 am the roadway was reopened. 5-0 PATROL provides unbiased and authentic footage of incidents captured on body cams.
