On June 27, 2025, Santa Fe County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a possible intoxicated driver. The reporting party called to report that a Nissan Altima was swerving all over the roadway, failing to maintain its lane of travel, and traveling approximately 15 miles per hour (MPH) in a 45 MPH zone. A few minutes later the caller reported that the Nissan was following too closely and road raging. Deputies located the Nissan and initiated a traffic stop. The Nissan was being driven by a 31-year-old woman. The police report states that deputies could smell alcohol coming from the woman's breath. As a result, she was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of the tests, she was placed under arrest. She refused to provide to breath samples. She was charged with (1) Aggravated Driving While Under the Influence (refusal to test) (2nd offense); and (2) Following Too Closely. On June 30, 2025, the two charges were dismissed without prejudice. On December 9, 2025, charges were refiled. Her case remains open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
