But this call did not start as a robbery, assault, or weapon call. According to CAD notes, it started as a Priority 4 “subject won’t leave” call at McDonald’s. Officers were dispatched at 11:18, arrived at 11:21, and by 11:27, one person was in custody. The barred-person report says the McDonald’s manager wanted Lang barred from the property, that she was warned she could be charged with criminal trespass if she returned, and that Lang later left the property. But the situation escalated into handcuffs, force, a resisting charge, and later a dismissal request “in the interest of justice.” The department’s own suspension letter later found Wilson used inappropriate force, dragged Lang across the parking lot, failed to use trained methods, failed to seatbelt her, and used force found to be unreasonable, unnecessary, and excessive. Wilson was later indicted. And city leaders said the legal system was doing what it was designed to do.
