Similar videos coming soon! Official report summary below. "On 2/8/24, (redacted), ADF&G port sampling supervisor reported an undersize king salmon the F/V Evening Star at Sitka Sound Seafoods. I responded, to Sitka Sound Seafoods. I contacted (redacted) and the permit holder at the north hoist. A king salmon was set aside with (redacted) sampling gear. I measured the salmon by placing the snout against the wall and using a sampling board to determine length. I found the king to be 27" in length, I also found the sampling board to have a prominent mark at 28" which I checked with a measuring tape. Permit holder Tim (redacted) stated he had made a mistake in measuring. I went down to the vessel with (redacted). He offered that he'd already completed the fish ticket. I asked (redacted) if he had any other fish aboard the boat. He responded that there were no other fish aboard. (redacted) showed me his measuring bin aboard the vessel and replaced his hatch cover immediately. I noted that he was utilizing slush ice for his king salmon but had dirty ice in the port and starboard sides of the hold. Keeping ice in holds is common as ballast, however, keeping used ice especially from slush tanks, is not. (redacted) gutting bin would have contributed to measuring error, however, he also had a 28" mark on the fish hold lid. (redacted) stated he was experienced with fishing and measuring. I looked in the ice in the hold where I found two head off king salmon completely buried under the ice on the port side of the vessel. I identified salmon as kings by the body shape, spot pattern, and tail shape. (redacted) immediately stated they were small ones. (redacted) then said he was keeping them personal use and that the fish were of legal size when retained. He admitted telling the processor, the sampler, and the Trooper there were no other fish aboard. He stated he knew he didn't report on the fish ticket. Neither fish met the cletheral arch to tip of the tail measurement of 23" and neither were reported to Sitka Sound Seafoods. One of the king salmon was hatchery fin clipped. ADF&G sampling staff indicated they were unable to sample the fish as a result of the head, where any electronic tags would be located, was missing. The totality of the circumstances suggest (redacted) intended to keep the undersize king salmon as personal use and had removed the heads to prevent measuring. I cited (redacted) for taking undersize king salmon and failing to report personal use fish. He was warned regarding de-heading of king salmon. I seized all three King salmon. On 2/8/24 two of the salmon were donated to the Sitka Pioneer Home. The remaining salmon was preserved as evidence. Photos and Body Worn Camera footage taken. Arraignment set for 2/20/24 at 1430 hours."
