TURNER COUNTY, GEORGIA — What started as a simple traffic stop for speeding turned into a dangerous pursuit that uncovered much more than reckless driving. 28-year-old Ja’vonte Laquan Davis of Columbus, Ohio refused to stop for deputies, fleeing at high speeds while his own children were inside the vehicle. His actions included reckless lane changes, aggravated assault on a police officer, and DUI — all while driving on a suspended license. Deputies later learned Davis was also a fugitive from justice, wanted in Ohio on an outstanding warrant for aggravated armed robbery. Charges in Georgia included: Felony Fleeing Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer Two Counts of Child Cruelty Reckless Driving Speeding Improper Lane Change Driving on a Suspended License DUI A Turner County judge sentenced Davis to 8 years in a Georgia state prison, with a release date of June 20, 2030. Upon release, he will immediately be extradited to Ohio to face prosecution for aggravated armed robbery, which carries a sentence range of 6 to 14 years. EMS checked on the children and their mother — fortunately, no injuries were reported. This case is a clear reminder: a “simple” speeding stop can uncover far more, and fleeing from police rarely ends well. 📌 Status: Convicted — serving 8 years in Georgia before extradition to Ohio.
