On October 11th, around 12:05 PM, Santa Clarita Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance near Sloan Canyon Road. The caller described a heated argument between a man and a woman inside a car, followed by the sound of gunshots. Upon arrival, deputies found 48-year-old Raul Martinez and a woman near a vehicle. A physical altercation had taken place, and Martinez was armed with a handgun. When a deputy approached, Martinez pointed the gun at him. The deputy, fearing for his safety, fired his weapon, wounding Martinez. A young child, Martinez's own, was present in the vehicle during the incident but was unharmed. Martinez has since been charged with assault with a firearm, false imprisonment, child endangerment, and other weapon-related offenses. Both the Sheriff's Department and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office are conducting independent investigations into the shooting.
