In the early hours of July 6, 2025, a police sergeant patrolling the 200 block of Newark Street noticed a highly concerning sight a vehicle parked on the street with the driver’s door left wide open and a man sleeping soundly in the driver's seat. Upon waking the driver, officers immediately noticed signs of heavy impairment, including watery eyes, slow speech, and general confusion. Additional officers arrived to assist, and a standard field sobriety test was administered on the scene. The situation quickly escalated when the driver was taken into custody for suspected impaired driving. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a small, empty vodka bottle stashed in the glove compartment. Transported to police headquarters, the driver refused to provide a breath sample and was ultimately issued several summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, possessing an open alcohol container, and refusing chemical testing. The driver was later released to a responsible party. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty #news
