On February 21, 2024, at about 11:30 PM, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) arrested 57-year-old James Lynn Schaff of Cambridge on breaking and entering charges following a series of incidents on Charles Street. Officers responded to reports of a smashed window and later an alarm at Thieves Next Door Jewelry Store, where they found evidence of forced entry but no suspect inside. Continuing their search, they discovered Schaff inside a nearby business at 15 Charles Street holding a brick. He was taken into custody, and several stolen jewelry items were recovered from his possession. Schaff was charged with nighttime breaking and entering, destruction of property, and being a common and notorious thief, and was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
