A 37-year-old man is facing felonious assault charges after allegedly bringing a machete and multiple knives into Cleveland Hopkins Airport, sparking a security scare on July 8. Police body camera footage shows officers approaching the individual, identified as Sameer Farraj, near the north security checkpoint line. Farraj refers to the machete as “treasure” rather than a weapon, claiming open-carry rights. Upon standing, he reveals additional knives. Officers instruct Farraj to turn around, but instead he flees, colliding with a bystander. Though police deploy Tasers, they prove ineffective due to his clothing. Farraj jumps over a wall behind an airline ticket counter and declares he is “being peaceful,” even as he disregards commands to lie on the ground. At one point, he urges officers to place their guns on the floor. Farraj then vaults over another wall with a knife in hand and moves toward a crowd of travelers waiting at the TSA checkpoint. He ultimately leaps over a second wall, landing unharmed on a flight of steps, where police successfully apprehend and handcuff him. #cops #bodycam #police #dashcam #airport #truecrimestories #spiritairlines
