Officers respond to a mall parking lot after someone reports two children alone in an unlocked vehicle. A nine month old and a six year old. Their twenty three year old mother went inside to pick up a food order. She estimated she was gone five to ten minutes. The mall cameras showed nearly thirty minutes. She works in rehabilitation and is a mandated reporter. Officers charge her with Class A misdemeanor child endangerment under Illinois law, release her on scene with a court date, and notify DCFS as required. Her children remain with her. This video examines Illinois child endangerment law and why intention does not affect the charge, the mandatory reporting obligation officers carry independently of the parent's wishes, why the release on scene rather than booking reflects officer discretion within the law, and what the DCFS notification process looks like from the officer's side. Nothing in this video is legal advice. We are not practising attorneys. All commentary is for education, awareness, and accountability. Channel. Proof On Record.
