ATLANTA, GA – On July 25, 2020, Atlanta Police were dispatched to an apartment at 235 Peyton Place SW regarding a domestic disturbance between Whitney Sanders and her ex-boyfriend, 29-year-old Dytarious Bernard Kelly, the father of her three children. According to Sanders, Kelly was only supposed to be visiting for the weekend, but refused to leave. She stated they were no longer in a relationship, he did not pay rent or bills, and had been eating her food and using her utilities without permission. The verbal arguments escalated throughout the day until Sanders went downstairs to rest on the couch. Moments later, Kelly allegedly came downstairs shirtless, stood over her, struck her in the face, and “mushed” her head — all in front of their 8-year-old child. Sanders’ sister, a witness, told police she saw the scuffle and turned on the lights, observing a large swollen lump above Sanders’ left eye. Kelly was detained without incident. Officers recovered $2,901 in cash, a cellphone, and a debit card from his person, which were released to his mother on scene. Kelly was charged with Battery – Family Violence and Cruelty to Children (3rd Degree). The incident was recorded on police body-worn cameras.
