On October 1, 2025, California Highway Patrol officers assigned to the Santa Ana Area were monitoring southbound Interstate 5 in Orange County when they observed a Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed. The Officers radar indicated the vehicle was traveling approximately 103 mph. CHP Officers attempted to stop the Honda near 17th Street, but the driver failed to yield and a pursuit began. The vehicle reached speeds of 130 mph and traveled through surface streets at speeds approaching 90 mph and later reentered the freeway before continuing onto SR-133, SR-241 and SR-91. As the pursuit continued westbound on SR-91, CHP officers deployed a spike strip near Lakeview Avenue. The spike strip was successful, and shortly afterward the Honda reportedly lost control near SR-55, sideswiped the concrete center divider, spun out and became disabled. CHP initiated a high-risk stop. Officers broke the passenger-side window after the driver appeared unable to exit through either front door. Officers then removed the driver from the vehicle. CHP reported that a struggle occurred while officers attempted to place him in handcuffs, resulting in officers taking him to the ground. The driver was evaluated by Anaheim Fire Department personnel and was later transported to Orange County Global Medical Center for medical clearance before being booked into the Orange County Jail on the following charges: CVC 2800.2(a) – Felony reckless evasion of a peace officer PC 148(a)(1) – Resisting, delaying, or obstructing a peace officer 0:00 High-Speed Pursuit Begins on Interstate 5 11:25 Approaching Santiago Canyon at Triple Digits 15:10 Entering the 91 Westbound Corridor 18:30 Spike Strip Deployed 18:56 Driver Crashes Car After Hitting Spike Strips 20:04 Driver Fights Police 21:28 Driver Arrested This video documents a law-enforcement encounter using footage and information released through a Freedom of Information Act request.
