On July 24, 2023, deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on NW 44th Street in Ocala regarding a reported domestic battery and stolen vehicle. According to the arrest affidavit, the victim reported that the father of her child assaulted her inside her vehicle, including punching her multiple times and putting his arm around her neck, restricting her breathing. The victim also reported that the suspect took her 2011 Kia Sorento without permission and drove away. The victim and the juvenile were transported to AdventHealth Ocala for evaluation. Deputies observed a large contusion on the right side of the victim’s head. The juvenile was also evaluated and was found to have a swollen right foot that the victim said was not present before the incident. Deputies later located the stolen vehicle traveling southbound on NE 58th Avenue. When a deputy attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. During the pursuit, the vehicle crossed the median and began traveling in the opposite direction of traffic before leaving the roadway and striking a concrete power pole. The suspect, who was the sole occupant, was extricated from the vehicle by fire rescue and transported to a hospital. Deputies made contact with the suspect, who was advised of his Miranda rights and declined to speak with deputies on the advice of his attorney. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail without further incident. The affidavit states that a records check showed no prior battery convictions for the suspect.
