On November 4, 2023, Belmar Police Officer Vojtko observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way on a one-way street. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and the police report indicates he could smell alcohol emanating from inside of the vehicle. The 25-year-old woman was asked to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. Despite her self-assessment that she passed all of the tests, she was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). She then refused to get in the back of the police vehicle and had to be assisted into the rear seat area. At the police station, her antics continued. She first agreed to submit to an evidential breath test, but when she was not allowed to make a phone call, she decided to refuse the test. She was ultimately charged with 1) DWI; 2) Refusal to Submit to Chemical Testing; 3) Careless Driving; 4) Reckless Driving; 5) Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign; and 6) Driving the Wrong Way on a One-Way Street. On January 24, 2024, she pleaded guilty to the DWI charge. The other 5 charges were dismissed. She was assessed a total of $1,105 in fines and court costs. In addition, she was ordered to spend 12 hours at an Intoxicated Driver's Resource Center and she was required to install an Ignition Interlock Device on her vehicle.
