On March 10, 2024, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Hunt observed a woman traveling on Interstate 80 in Summit County without her seatbelt on. Trooper Hunt slowed down to let the woman pass him so that he could capture the violation on his body camera. He initiated a traffic stop at mile marker 154. The woman chose to exit the highway at the next offramp and pull into a SInclair gas station. She refused to roll down her window, present a driver's license, or answer any questions. At one point, she called 911 to report her illegal detainment. Both Trooper Hunt and Summit County Sheriff's Deputy Gunn labeled her a sovereign citizen. At the end of the encounter, the woman was issued a citation for failure to wear a seat belt and no proof of insurance.
