On October 11, 2025 at approximately 2:00 AM, the Ventnor City Police Department received a report of a motor vehicle crash in which the driver had allegedly fled the scene after crashing into a fence in the area of Wellington and Oxford Avenue in Ventnor City, New Jersey. Officers responded to the location and began searching the surrounding streets for the vehicle involved in the incident. A short distance away, officers located a car matching the description provided by witnesses. The vehicle was parked several blocks from the crash site. Behind the wheel was a 31-year-old female, and inside the vehicle with her was her 10-year-old son, who had been present during the crash. Officers Michael Newell, Ryan Rifkin and Sergeant James Franco from the Ventnor City Police Department conducted the on-scene investigation. According to the police report, Officer Newell observed several behavioral and physical indicators consistent with impairment, including the odor of an alcohol. Officer Newell conducted standardized field sobriety tests and documented additional observations throughout the evaluation. During this time, officers also gathered information regarding the earlier crash, including statements from witnesses. Based on the totality of the circumstances, including the crash itself, the driver’s observed condition, and the presence of a child in the vehicle, officers determined that there was probable cause to arrest the driver for driving under the influence. Additional charges were initiated related to leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, failure to report a crash, and endangering the welfare of a child. The driver was transported to the police station for processing, where she refused to submit a breath sample after admitting to consuming tequila shots earlier in the night at a family member’s house. At the time this video is being posted, this matter remains pending in court, and no final disposition has been reached. All individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
