In the early morning hours outside a Lake Como, New Jersey bar, an officer on post observed security escorting a male patron out of the front entrance after a heated dispute over a misplaced cell phone. When the patron and his friend grew increasingly belligerent and began screaming profanities at the staff, the patrol officer stepped in and issued multiple clear warnings to leave the property. Instead of walking away, the pair repeatedly returned to confront the officer and security. As the officer initiated an arrest on the first suspect for disorderly conduct, the second suspect charged forward in an aggressive attempt to interfere. Bar staff immediately intervened to create space for the officer, sparking a physical struggle that resulted in the suspect punching a security member in the ribs before both crashed into a parked car. After being brought to the ground and placed in handcuffs, the bleeding suspect was transported to police headquarters for processing. The chaos continued at the station, where the uncooperative suspect attempted to use loud, bizarre behavior to stop an officer from noticing a small plastic bag of cocaine hidden inside his crumpled cash. He was ultimately released on a summons charged with Disorderly Conduct, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Interference with Business, and Refusal to Submit to Fingerprinting. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
