It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At around 7:15 PM on August 22, 2024, Officer Matthew Tavarone and Sergeant Scott Tobin responded to a call at 559 East Main Street. A store employee rushed over to tell them about a woman who tried to steal from Dollar Tree and then drive off. When the officers arrived, the employee explained that they had recovered the stolen items before the woman left the store. His main concern now was that the woman might be intoxicated or impaired. The officers approached the suspect, who was identified as Rebecca Sullivan. She denied being under the influence but was asked to perform field sobriety tests due to signs of possible impairment. The first test was the Walk and Turn. Rebecca struggled to touch her heel to her toe, took too many or too few steps, and didn’t finish the turn properly. Next was the One Leg Stand. She didn’t lift her foot correctly and put it down early on the exercise. The last test was the Romberg, where she estimated 25 seconds for a passage that actually took 42 seconds. Because witnesses thought she seemed impaired, she admitted to driving, and she failed the field sobriety tests, Officer Tavarone placed her under arrest for DUI. Her car was impounded for 12 hours under John’s Law. Since Denville’s Alcotest machine was out of order, she was taken to Parsippany Police for more tests. At the station, Rebecca was read the standard statement for drivers. She agreed to give breath samples. The breath test showed a BAC of 0.00%. Still, officers believed she was under the influence of something else. She was brought back to Denville Police headquarters and examined by Sheriff Joseph Abrusci, a trained drug recognition expert. Sheriff Abrusci concluded Rebecca was impaired. She was eventually released to her mother after signing a liability warning form. Officer Tavarone charged her with DUI, reckless driving, and careless driving. Court records show Rebecca was arrested earlier, on December 20, 2023, for stealing about $300 worth of items from T.J. Maxx in Totowa. She has a long history of trouble with the law before that arrest. 14:20 I’ve honestly never heard the passenger seat of a car called a “chair.” 17:06 what is that face? And with that weird fake cry? If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video.
