A boy rode his bike until he found someone who would listen. What she saw on his back made her call the police. On July 27, 2024, in Beavercreek, Ohio, a child rode up to a woman in his neighborhood crying and asked for help. He said his mother had been hurting him and that he was afraid she would come after him. The woman, a former probation officer, looked at his back and immediately moved him out of sight before calling police. When officers arrived, the boy told them the abuse had been going on for approximately six years. Officers observed open wounds and scarring on his back and arms. He had not eaten since the night before. He was transported to Dayton Children's Hospital for treatment. Officers then approached Stephani Miller, 36. Her first words were that he had gotten a whooping. When the officer told her he had open gashes on his back, she was arrested on the street. During questioning, Miller admitted she normally used a belt. She said this time she grabbed an extension cord because the child had hidden the belt. She also told officers she ran a home daycare out of the same house. In May 2025, Miller pleaded guilty to felony endangering children and misdemeanor domestic violence. She was sentenced to six months in county jail and five years of intensive probation. He wore long sleeves to football practice for years so nobody would ask questions. One afternoon he got on his bike and found the one person who stopped.
