Cop N Con Press Room - The Walnut Creek Police Department has released critical body camera footage from a deadly confrontation involving 46-year-old Joaquin Anthony Perea. On February 26th, officers responded to a call where they encountered Perea, who appeared to be armed with a handgun. In the released footage, you can hear officers repeatedly ordering Perea to drop the weapon and surrender. After he reportedly refused to comply with those commands, officers opened fire. Following the incident, it was determined that the weapon Perea was holding was a pellet gun. According to family members, Perea had struggled with schizophrenia for years and had recently stopped taking his medication.
