On August 26, 2024, around 6:15 PM, FHP Troopers were searching for a silver Honda Accord wanted in connection with an armed carjacking in Pasco County. Dispatch advised that the suspect was believed to be armed and that the vehicle's GPS location was near Crystal River. Troopers located the vehicle traveling northbound on US 19 near State Road 40 in Levy County and confirmed its Florida tag matched the vehicle described in the BOLO. When troopers attempted a felony traffic stop, the suspect accelerated and a pursuit ensued. As the pursuit continued north on US 19, a Levy County Sheriff's deputy traveling in the area was dispatched to assist FHP. The deputy observed the pursuit approaching at a high rate of speed, pulled onto the shoulder to allow the vehicles to pass, and then activated his emergency lights and joined the pursuit.
