He hit his lights and stopped her right in front of Waretown Plaza at 529 Route 9 North. She pulled over. He walked up to talk with the driver, 21-year-old Maricruz. Patrolman Russell Moller pulled up too, to lend a hand. He asked for her license and papers. Signs of drunkenness jumped out at him. Maricruz said she had just clocked out from her server shift at Dolce Liberta in Manahawkin, New Jersey. Home was her next stop. How much to drink? A few that night, she confessed. Suspicion grew. He told her to step out for sobriety tests. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus check. Next, Walk and Turn. She missed heel-to-toe touches. Her turn went wrong. Steps counted off. Last test: One Leg Stand. Foot stayed low. Arms flailed for balance. Erratic drive. Booze admission. Botched tests. Patrolman Van De Brook cuffed her for DUI. A quick car search turned up open booze containers. They towed her ride for the required 12-hour hold. He drove her back to Ocean Township Police HQ. There, she heard the standard motor vehicle statement. She agreed to breath tests. Alcotest clocked her at 0.16% BAC—twice the 0.08% limit. Processing wrapped up. A sober adult took her home after signing the liability form. Tickets hit her: DUI, reckless driving, marked lane violation, open container. Court files show another DWI bust for her in Berkeley Township, New Jersey, on February 8, 2024. If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video.
