On July 14, 2023, Rutgers University Police were called to the Barnes & Noble Bookstore in regard to an unhoused man who had stolen money from the employee tip jar. While Officer Olexsa was getting the information from the employees, Officer Honegger was able to detain a man who fit the description of the suspect. Once it was confirmed that the man would be arrested for theft, he attempted to flee three officers who were at the scene. He didn't make it very far, but made a valiant effort to escape nonetheless. Because one of the officers sustained a slight injury during the scuffle, the man was transferred to the Middlesex County Jail. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
