Dallas Police responded to a robbery in progress at an illegal game room early on February 11, 2024, leading to a high-stakes shootout with suspects. At approximately 12:37 a.m., officers arrived at the scene on 2984 W. Wheatland Road, where they encountered a man exiting from the back door of the shopping center, claiming a robbery was taking place. Upon entering the premises, officers found patrons inside the illegal business. The suspects fled from the front door, only to run into other responding officers. One of the suspects, identified as 23-year-old Reginald Curry, allegedly fired a shot at the officers while attempting to escape. Despite being pursued, Curry continued to shoot at officers as he ran through the parking lot. Officers returned fire, hitting Curry in the leg and chest area. He was taken into custody and received first aid on the scene before being transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition. A second suspect managed to escape from the scene. Three weapons were recovered: one from the path Curry took while shooting at officers, another from the original robbery scene, and a third from Curry when he was taken into custody. Curry faces charges of three counts of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant. The investigation, led by the Dallas Police Special Investigations Unit, is ongoing, with additional charges and arrests possible. The Dallas County District Attorney’s office is conducting its own investigation. No officers were injured during the incident. In a move towards transparency, the Dallas Police Department has released the body-worn camera footage of the incident to the public.
