Officers were dispatched to a parking lot at 3365 Richmond Road regarding a potential assault. Upon arriving at the plaza, an officer spotted a vehicle leaving that matched the caller's description and initiated a stop. The driver explained she had been arguing with a man who worked at a nearby restaurant. Police proceeded toward the restaurant and found a shirtless man walking through the parking lot, throwing his hands in the air. The man approached the patrol car, confirming he was the individual they were seeking and stating he was merely arguing with his significant other. Officers noted he smelled strongly of alcohol, had slurred speech, and had red, watery eyes. He admitted to chasing after a car and falling, though he insisted the altercation was strictly verbal. When asked for identification, the man claimed it was in his vehicle and refused to provide his full social security number or confirm his name. Instead, he claimed to have an active warrant and repeatedly told the officers to take him to jail. Due to his uncooperative behavior, alleged warrant, and heavy intoxication, he was detained, handcuffed, and secured in the back of a police cruiser. The female driver also confirmed the dispute was only verbal and declined to press charges. The man was officially arrested for disorderly conduct and transported to the local city jail for booking. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
