On October 7, 2025, California Highway Patrol officers were handling an unrelated traffic collision on northbound US-101 near Lankershim Boulevard when they encountered a black Land Rover stopped in a traffic lane. Officers approached the vehicle and found former NBA star Paul Pierce sitting in the driver’s seat and appearing to be asleep behind the wheel. After making contact with Pierce, CHP officers began a DUI investigation. Pierce told officers he had consumed two alcoholic drinks before driving. Officers reported observing red and watery eyes, slightly slurred speech and the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Pierce was then asked to perform several standardized field sobriety tests, including the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, Walk-and-Turn and One-Leg Stand. CHP documented multiple observations during those tests. A preliminary alcohol screening breath test was later administered, producing readings of .111% and .108%. Pierce was subsequently arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and transported to East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital for a chemical blood test. He was then transported to the Central CHP Los Angeles Area office where he was cited and released on the following charges: • 23152(A) - DUI Alcohol/Drugs • 23152(B) - DUI Alcohol W/BAC Above .08 California Highway Patrol Officers involved: Officer D.
